The 8 Best Neighborhoods in Riverside, California

Riverside is a large city offering many different neighborhoods featuring single-family homes, condos, and luxury lofts. Whether you are a history buff strolling through historical sites and museums, or the outdoorsy type looking for beautiful hiking areas, Riverside and its surrounding areas have it all for you.

With all the different neighborhoods Riverside has to offer, it can be tough to decide where to live. I’ve selected eight great neighborhoods based on my tenure in property management.

Let’s take a tour of the Eight Best Neighborhoods in Riverside, California, shall we?

Downtown Riverside

If you appreciate history, then Downtown is the place for you. It is home to more than a dozen historical sites and more than thirty city-designated landmarks. Walking along the tree-lined streets, you will find landmarks such as the famous Fox Theater, where the first showing of the 1939 film Gone with the Wind took place; The Mission Inn Hotel and Spa, and the Riverside County Historic Courthouse. During the holiday season (Thanksgiving through New Year); the Mission Inn is decorated with more than 3.5 million holiday lights and hundreds of animated figures during the “Festival of Lights.”

If you are the outdoorsy type, then you must visit Fairmount Park and hike to the top of Mt. Rubidoux. Fairmount Park is a 209-acre historical park and includes Lake Evans, Fairmount Lake, and Fairmount Golf Course. Mt. Rubidoux is a 161-acre prominent, and distinctive hill rising high above downtown with hiking trails leading to the top of the hill and giving breathtaking views of the city. It is well known for 4th of July fireworks and Easter Sunrise Services.

Are you a foody? You will love the eats to be had downtown. Anything you are craving can be found here ranging from Mexican food to French, to Italian, and beyond. There is plenty to choose from: restaurants such as Le Chat Noir, a French Restaurant; Mario’s Place, an upscale Northern Italian spot; Old Spaghetti Factory; and the Salted Pig.

Schools in the area include Bryant Elementary and St. Francis de Sales. The average rent for a 2-bedroom single-family home in the area is $1695. The average price to purchase a home in the area is $300,000.

Wood Streets

The Wood Streets are located close to Downtown Riverside making it a desirable location to live. A subdivider named Wood used his name as a suffix to a street name, and so began the “Wood Streets.” Here you will find homes with beautiful landscaping and narrow streets, reminiscent of the 1920’s home. Architecturally speaking these homes are showstoppers, reflective of the designs of the early part of the century as most homes were built before World War II. A unique fact about the neighborhood, it sits partially on naturally flat land and partially on a manufactured land area.

The region has a strong sense of community and tradition of home ownership. Most homes are owned rather than rented. Although as the generations pass, we are seeing a shift towards an increase in renters in the area.

The average rent for a 2-bedroom Wood Street home is $1800. The average purchase price of a 2-bedroom home in this neighborhood is $350,000.

Canyon Crest

Canyon Crest is one of the largest and most diverse neighborhoods in Riverside. Most of the homes in the area represent a modern subdivision design. The hilly terrain has shaped the development and created some stunning views.

The Canyon Crest Towne Centre offers shopping from boutiques to groceries; you can find almost anything in the shops. All that shopping got you hungry. Fear not! There are plenty of eats to be had, ranging from BBQ to Burgers to Ice Cream. Whatever you crave, you will find it here.

Full from all that eating? Hit the great outdoors by walking any number of trails surrounding the area or take the kids to Sycamore Highlands Park. Sycamore Highlands Park is a 10-acre neighborhood park with many trails within the Sycamore Canyon Wilderness Park. Not much for hiking, no problem. Stop by Andulka Park; a brand new 30-acre park that includes two baseball fields, a tennis complex, two lighted basketball courts, two volleyball courts, a restroom and concession stand, a children’s playground, and more, for a fun day of play.

Average rent rate for a 4-bedroom home in Canyon Crest is $3000 a month. The average purchase price for a 4-bedroom home is $700,000.

Mission Grove

Mission Grove’s name is derived from the unique heritage of Riverside, the Mission Inn, and the Citrus Groves. The Mission Grove neighborhood is a newer area of Riverside consisting of a mix of single-family homes, apartments, and condos.

Mission Grove Plaza offers shopping, Sushi, movies, and more. The plaza is centrally located along Alessandro Blvd near Mission Grove Prkwy, making access to the 215, 60, or 91 Freeway easy for commuters.

Average home price in Mission Grove for a 4-bedroom home is $550,000, and the average rental price is $2800 for a 4-bedroom home.

Orangecrest

Orangecrest is a relatively newer neighborhood compared to Woodcrest or Downtown, joining the scene in 1986. Orangecrest is bordered by March Air Force Base and Mission Grove. The neighborhood consists of mostly single-family homes. The proximity to the 215-freeway and the Orange Terrace Community Park makes this the #1 sought-after neighborhood in Riverside. Orange Terrace Park offers baseball and softball fields, a basketball court, a picnic area, and a Splash Pad.

You can do your shopping at the shopping centers located just down the street on Van Buren Blvd and Trautwein. Schools in the area include four elementary schools, two middle schools, and two high schools including King High.

Average home price in Orangecrest is $450,000 for a 4-bedroom, and the average rental price is $2800 for a 4-bedroom home.

Today the campus is 140 acres with over 2,000 students. Located within the campus, you will find an arboretum, a beautiful library, museums, and an observatory. It is said that the La Sierra neighborhood is a city-within-a-city. In addition to La Sierra University, La Sierra is home to the Galleria at Tyler, Kaiser Hospital, Riverwalk, and the La Sierra Metrolink Station.

La Sierra is comprised of single-family tract homes, gated planned communities, and luxury apartments. Thanks to the many parks and fantastic schools this neighborhood has to offer, coupled with the Riverwalk master-planned community, this area saw dramatic growth in recent years.

The average home price for a 4-bedroom home in the area is $480,000. The average rental price for a 4-bedroom home in the area is $2300.

Hawarden Hills

A hidden gem in Riverside, the name Hawarden originated in the British Isles. The English descendants who invested in and occupied Arlington Heights brought names they were family within the British Isles.

Hawarden Hills neighborhood includes single-family homes on mid-size and estate lots and a small number of planned residential developments along Victoria Avenue primarily.

Schools in the area include Poly High school, a very sought-after school, and the California School for the Deaf.

The average price for a 4-bedroom home is $575,000 — the average rental price for a 4-bedroom $4,000.

Victoria

Victoria was originally part of the Arlington Heights subdivision, an old and historic neighborhood. The neighborhood has the fourth highest homeownership rate in the city, according to Riverside City statistics. Developer, Matthew Gage, partly developed the neighborhood and hired architect Priestly Hall to design a Victorian Style house on top of Victoria Hill. The house still stands on the hill and is known as Rockledge. Rockledge is a stunning three-story home prime example of the Victorian-style architecture and was recently restored to mint condition.

If you are a golf lover, then you must check out the Victoria Country Club. The stunning, private Country Club is home to an eighteen-hole golf course, 6-lane 25-yard swimming pool, five lighted tennis courts, an exercise room, dining rooms, and a beautiful Victorian-style clubhouse.

Great schools in the area include Poly Tech High School, California School for the Deaf, and Gage Middle school.

The average home price for a 4-bedroom home in the area is $575,000. The average rental price for a 4-bedroom is $2200.

A Great Easy Trail to Start with is…

Mt. Rubidoux, located in Riverside, CA, and is more of a paved road than a dusty hiking trail. Mt. Rubidoux is no longer considered a “hiking trail,” but it still brings impressive views of the city and is a great way to spend time with friends, family, even taking the dog for a walk. At the top of Mt. Rubidoux, you will find the American Flag and a Cross. As with all hiking trips, be sure to pack sunscreen, a hat, and plenty of water.

The trail is super steep, featuring some quick turns and challenging rock sections.” The Box Spring Mountain Reserve Park encompasses 1,155 acres overlooking the University of California, Riverside.

Moving Right Along…Sycamore Canyon Wilderness Park Trail

A project which seeks to engage the community in the observation and documentation of Riverside’s environment. The trail features a beautiful waterfall and is rated a moderate hike. Dogs are allowed on the trail but must be on a leash. Beware, depending on the time of year; you are sure to see, snakes and even coyotes.

Stop and smell the roses…

Or any of the beautiful flowers found along the UCR Botanical Garden trails. Located in the foothills of the Box Springs Mountains the gardens cover 40 acres, a living museum of more than 3,500 plant species and thousands of specimens from around the world. The gardens are used for teaching, research, and demonstration purposes, as well as for appreciation of nature. Explore the many Themed Gardens such as the Butterfly Garden, Herb Garden, Iris Garden, and Rose Garden. You will not be disappointed by the trails surrounding this majestic place.

What To Do in Newport Beach, CA

If you are new to Southern California as I am, you might feel like the adventures that await are countless. California has so much to do and to see, and endless beauty all around. One of my favorite places to go to is Newport Beach, mainly because it is only an hour away from me here in Riverside, CA. When you are listening to your favorite jams, that barely feels like a drive. You can enjoy a day of surfing, boogie boarding, splashing in the sun, hiking, shopping, spa treatments, cruising on your bike, shoot, even take a cruise on a ship, whale watching, golf, and enjoy some or all the tasty treats that you are surrounded by. You will not go bored or hungry.

It all just really depends on what you fancy. As for myself and my family, we enjoy window shopping, and eating out! We love trying out new places, and it’s not only about the food but just the feeling of being in a new spot, a new city. Even though we are an hour away from home, it feels like we are on a mini vacation get-a-way. And if we stay too late and are too tired to drive, we have options in staying at a nice hotel overlooking the ocean.

Places to Stay

Ideally, the first thing you want to do is search for a hotel. If you enjoy golfing and hillsides or appreciate gorgeous views, The Resort at Pelican Hill would be just lovely. It is breathtaking. The pool itself is out of a fantasy. Inside each Bungalow, relax by a private fireplace, terrace, and ocean views with plenty to share.

Obviously, at the Pelican there’s a price to pay for all the perks, so if you are looking for something just as extravagant but a lot more economical, check out the Fashion Island Hotel.

This hotel is a 20-story building that overlooks the Pacific Ocean and nearby Islands like Lido, Catalina, and Balboa. The Island is located above the Pacific Coast Highway between MacArthur Blvd and Jamboree Rd Beach right across the Hotel. Fashion Island is perfect for days you want to stroll outdoors while window shopping. With a variety of shops and boutiques totaling 150 plus restaurants and coffee shops, you will enjoy your day out. If you have little ones you would like to entertain, the Irvine Spectrum Center will fascinate them with all the neon lights, colossal Ferris wheel, and the carousel ride. You can also find the Pretend City Museum only 20 minutes away from you. That would be something neat to check out on your way out.

Don’t want to stay in a hotel, no problem. Beach houses make a great get-away. But you must book early, or you will miss out. Check out some great rentals offered by Burr White Realty. They provide beautiful homes; some are ocean-front. Who doesn’t love waking up to the waves crashing on the shore?

Dining Out

On to my favorite part of vacationing… Dining out. I mean who doesn’t like trying out new places. You will find as hungry as you are, you still won’t be able to decide what you want to eat. Juggling options in Newport Beach, such as Steak, Seafood, Italian, American, Mexican, the possibilities are galore. You’ll need to extend your vacation to cover all the places you’ll want to try. One of my absolute favorite places to go to is Ruby’s Diner. This place is a cute 1950s themed Diner, but there is nothing ordinary about the food. Go with an empty belly as the portions are huge and fulfilling. My personal favorite is the Cobb burger with bacon, bleu cheese, and fresh avocado paired with a cold, thick chocolate chip milkshake. And do not fret, if you are vegan or vegetarian, they have a wide selection on the menu for you as well!

Looking for something a bit fancier, you have options like Fleming’s Steak House, for a great steak dinner. Craving a fantastic Seafood dinner, check out The Cannery Newport Beach. Want a bit more casual but just as tasty as those expensive places, try Mama D’s Italian Kitchen, you won’t be disappointed.

The Nightlife

After all that food, you surely need to take a walk down to the beach and make some room for dessert. If you’re like me, you want to exercise by bar hopping, cruising the streets, observing the nightlife, listening to music, and busting out a move or two. And to end the night cuddle up next to a random fire pit near the shoreline. Newport nightlife offers an array of bars and clubs to end with a nightcap. Depending on your mood, Time Nightclub is an upbeat nightspot with luxurious décor, DJ’s, bottle service, and an upscale-casual dress code. Looking for where the locals hang out, then you must check out Beach Ball. Beach Ball is a local favorite serving up potent drinks, jukebox tunes, and even serving Bloody Mary’s at 6 am!

You must check out some of these places this upcoming spring and summer. Make 2019 all about new experiences and fun. Get out there and enjoy Newport Beach! You will be so glad you did.

If you’re like me and you fall in LOVE with the ocean, then we can help you make Newport Beach your new home. Management One has properties available with your name on it! Check them out here.

Cherry Pie Day: Best Place to Grab A Slice of Pie in Riverside

Cherry Pie is as iconic, well almost, like Apple Pie and is it a coincidence that we celebrate Cherry Pie day, just a few days after President’s Day? Maybe it is or maybe not! After all, Cherries were one of President George Washington’s favorite food. Today is one of the best days of the year! Yes, it’s the national holiday not everyone may celebrate, but sure wants to. Here’s your chance. Make THIS the year you celebrate the greatness that is pie. Who doesn’t love pie? Flaky crust, sweet or sour filling. Don’t get me started on with or without whip cream and then there’s ala mode. NEED PIE NOW.  Pies have been served hot or cold since the ancient Greeks created them around the 5th century BC.  We know they made them with sweetmeats, and some filled with fruit. Here are a few things I bet you didn’t know about this savory or sweet classic.

  • The first pies were made with chicken. This was the beginning of what we know as a pot pie.
  • It is believed fruit pies probably originated in England in the early 1500s.
  • The first cherry pie was made for Queen Elizabeth I.

So, whatever you fancy, a slice of sweet pie or savory pie, or heck a slice of each, celebrate today’s holiday by enjoying a slice of pie from one of the fabulous places here in Riverside, California that are known for their amazing pies:

Backstreet Restaurant: 3735 Nelson St. Riverside, CA 92506

For over 50 years the same family has owned and operated Backstreet. Check out the world-famous fresh banana cream pie made daily at Riverside’s best kept secret lunch spot. Bring your puppy and eat outside in their hidden and eclectically decorated garden oasis. You’ll be glad you came. http://www.backstreetriverside.com/

Flo’s Farmhouse Café: 5620 Van Buren Blvd. Riverside, CA 92503

They have Millionaire pie. Enough said. It is pecan plus cream cheese plus chocolate and mousse. Then add 4 inches straight up of whipped cream.  But if that is not your style, they have coconut cream, custard, lemon and fresh apple daily! I recommend the Millionaire pie, but if you are a traditionalist, the apple heated ala mode is to die for. https://www.facebook.com/pages/category/American-Restaurant/Flos-Farmhouse-Cafe-115596748469888/

Jammin’ Bread Bakery and Café: 5225 Canyon Crest Dr #17a, Riverside, CA 92507

Located in the Canyon Crest Towne Center, this place is known to locals for its great breakfasts and quaint vibe. But it’s the pie that keeps them coming back. I recommend the Cherry. The flakey, buttery crust and tart cherry filling warm my soul. Go try them if you are in the Canyon Crest area. Check out Jammin’ Bread Bakery and Cafe.

Do yourself a favor….stop by one of these amazing places and enjoy a slice (or a whole pie) today! You will be so glad you did.

Pie Holes: Best Places to Grab a Slice of Pie in OC

Today is National Cherry Pie day and in honor of that delectable holiday, Management One would like to share some local “pie holes” you don’t want to miss! I should tell you I am a pie snob. So, these are my “tastymonials” of the best of OC. I must share, my first job was at a famous chain pie store and I learned a lot about baking pie and crust and if I must say, am pretty good at it myself. Finding the right balance of crust to filling ratio is key. These are my top favorites in OC. Enjoy!

Blackbird Artisan Pie

If the name sounds familiar, it’s because they are that great hand pie stand at the fair. You will also see them on the dessert menu at The Cellar Restaurant, but did you know they have a standalone shop right here in San Clemente? They offer gluten-free and sugar-free too. But if you must know, my personal fav is their banana Nutella hand pie. A little slice of heaven with some McConnell’s ice cream. Go check them out. https://www.facebook.com/blackbirdartisanpie/

Shut Your Pie Hole Boutique Bakery

When a bakery has the word “pie” in its name and then adds a cute humorous twist, we know it’s a winner. You won’t find them on a map though, this pie boutique specialist is pick up or delivery only. Temporarily closed until May 1, 2024, orders are placed by telephone (949) 266-7305. May I recommend Hillary’s award-winning Carmel Apple Crumble? Both the Carmel Apple and the Pecan are the top sellers, but you can find the traditional Cherry and even some southern favorites like her sugar cream pie on her menu. Support local businesses and give Hillary a call today. You won’t be sorry!

Morika’s Southern Delights

Yummy dessert caterers are located in Orange County, California. They specialize in baking delicious, down-home Southern Pies. Feeding a group or just yourself, they have you covered with their regular size pies or a mini pie. Not sure what to get that person that has it everything, why not a “dessert of the month” club membership. Morika’s does not have a storefront, as they are a Dessert Catering company. All their desserts are lovingly handmade from scratch in small batches, using only the finest natural ingredients available “just like Grandma used to make!” You can even request reduced sugar. From backyard BBQs and family gatherings, these pies are sure to please. They deliver for a small fee or you can arrange to pick up too. Check them out here: http://www.morikassoutherndelights.com

Try one or try them all, but do treat yourself to a slice of pie today, or every day!

Top 5 Best Pizza Places in Riverside California

Nothing screams comfort food like a piping hot slice of pizza pie. From the simple pepperoni pizza to the more decadent Jalapeno Popper Pizza featured at Bricks and Birch in Downtown Riverside.

Whatever you crave, Riverside California has some of the hottest places around to fill your belly with a slice of pizza pie.

Bricks and Birch: At the Food Lab Downtown Riverside off Market St.

Bricks and Birch at the Food Lab~ One of the best Neapolitan style pizza joints around opened recently in the Riverside Food Lab in Downtown Riverside. Right next to the Fox Theatre, the Food Lab is a fun place to visit with lots of fun food options. Especially if you love woodfired pizza, and who doesn’t? This is the place for you!  WHY WE LOVE IT? Using locally sourced wood for their ovens, Brick and Birch offers amazing unique flavor options like the Swineapple and Jalapeno Popper pizza to name a few. Brick and Birch also make their own vegan cheese and chicken. Yes, you heard that right. They make their own! They even bake all their own pastries on site too!  What about gluten-free options? They didn’t forget you. Bricks and Birch offer an amazing great gluten-free crust.  I ordered the “Ron Swanson” as I am a huge Parks and Rec fan and it delivered. Topped with “all the meats” of pepperoni, bacon, and sausage, the pizza took around 12-minutes to cook in the woodfired oven. The smell of the wood fire created a nice pleasant aroma. Finally, they called our name and we dove in. The crust was golden in color and bubbled in a way that only wood ovens can create. It was less greasy than I expected too. After eating a couple of slices, we discovered the clever design of the recycled to go box. Round with dimples on the lid and bumps and channels below to divert moisture and oils away from the crust. Really innovative and proved effective the next day when I heated some up for lunch. Welcome to Riverside Bricks and Birch!

Romano’s: Multiple Locations in Riverside

A Chicago born girl at heart, Romano’s is a classic Chicago Pizzeria and family Italian restaurant. With four locations to choose from, there is probably one near you. Romano’s is a family owned and operated restaurant that offers menu items that appeal to all ages of the family. Dine in or have it delivered by Door Dash. The pizzeria menu is extensive and offers that famous Chicago stuffed or thin crust options. But for those of us wanting a bit more, the gourmet pizza selections are amazing too. They even have a new menu option called Urban Eats! For those of us that no matter where we go, we need to make sure they have mac n cheese, guess what!?? They do. As well as other non-pizza or Italian options. WHY WE LOVE IT?  The Downtown Riverside location even has a concert lounge that hosts both tribute bands and, my personal favorite, 80’s rock bands. In February 2019, they will be hosting both Dramarama and the English Beat. Visit their website for details and show times. Check out Romano’s, they truly have something for everyone!

New York Pizza Co.: 3570 Van Buren, Riverside

You’ve probably driven by NYC Pizza Co a bunch of times and not even realized what you were missing! Almost at the 91 freeway exit and Van Buren, this pizza always delivers the good stuff. I mean delivers! There range for home deliveries is huge and the pizza is always delicious and hot. This local small business has a great lunch too. For $5 you get a giant slice of pizza and a drink and can even sit in their quaint patio area to enjoy it. Having a party? This is your pizza place go to. The Party Pizza is 24” and 28 slices of amazing. Bring a big car if you plan on carrying out, the box barely fit in my car door! WHY WE LOVE IT? The coupons! Check online for NYC Pizza coupons and ask for their “daily special”. You won’t be disappointed at NYC.  Oh, and did I mention the New York Cheesecake?

Pietro’s Italian Cuisine: 6788 Brockton Ave, Riverside

This next place is a real hidden gem. Right in the Brockton Arcade, a couple blocks from the Riverside Plaza, look to Pietro’s for great pizza and pasta too. Once you walk through the door you feel like you’ve been transported 60 years back in time and are stepping into Old Italy. The cool Good Fella’s vibe continues as you walk into the large open dining room. The curved red leather booths and old school Chianti bottles with candles wax dripping down almost hitting the checked red and white tablecloths really give the ambiance of a classic Italian Ristorante. But it’s that smell that hits you right away of the garlic bread. It’s to die for. Generous portions and great service are always to be expected. They make their own salad dressing fresh too!  WHY WE LOVE IT? Great prices, great portions, and great authentic vibe at Pietro’s Italian Cuisine!

D’Caesaro Pizza and Italian Restaurant

You’ll never order from a chain pizza place again after a visit to D’Caesaro. It is “THE” mom and pop place that’s been around forever. Definitely, a go-to when you’re craving comfort food like pizza on these colder winter days. Known for their pizza, calzones and mozzarella sticks, D’ caesaro is a Riverside neighborhood staple and many call it the best pizza in Riverside. It’s a great place to take a date for lunch but be prepared to wait for sure because the place can get busy, but it’s worth it! WHY WE LOVE IT? Family owned and operated since 1987 this place is all word of mouth and no big advertising budget. They only use fresh ingredients and D’Caesaro makes their dough fresh every day and you can taste the difference.

Who knew so many great places existed in Riverside, California! I challenge you to visit one of these amazing restaurants the next time you are craving a great slice of pizza, in fact, why not make a mission to dine at all 5 at least once!

Amazing NYC pizza and wonderful service! Known for their variety of pizza menu options, try
their garlic knots, Stromboli, and calzone too! The crust of their pizza is what makes them a top pick: very thin, light, and crispy. Best eaten hot, it’s not as good cold or reheated. 2-3 slices is a filling meal, and a large one will feed 3-4 people making it a great value for families. Made to order and ready as promised in 15 minutes. Check out the house and deluxe pies, both worth ordering again. Why do we love it? They have great coupons if you “check-in” on Yelp and offer half-off the second pizza Mon-Wed! They also have an email and text program. If you give them your phone number or email, they will send you all their coupon deals for the week. If you are in the Laguna Hills area, this is your spot! Don’t forget to take one of their delicious desserts to go!

Square One Pizza Café:  5789 Alton Pkwy, Irvine

Named by the OC Register as Best Pizza in OC, Square One lives up to the hype. When you walk into any restaurant and the place is packed, you know it’s going to be good.  Square One was busy but didn’t feel crowded at all. The décor is trendier/more upscale than most pizza joints, so you know there is something special here in addition to the shape of the pizza. The pizza, as suggested in the name, is in a square delicious shape making eating it super easy. In between the dine-in pizza lovers or the carry-out customers they still manage to give you a really great service. Sports watching can be done at the bar and it seems to be a popular hang out to catch a game, pizza, and some beer. The service is pretty quick and they are very efficient, and the selection is so large that it’s only up to you to pick your favorite pizza, ingredients, and flavors. They also have salads and other options if you want to stay on the light side, so there is something for everyone. Good selection of beers on tap and glasses of wine at the bar. Parking is easy in this plaza, for either lunch or dinner. Why we love it? The outdoor patios are dog-friendly! So bring your 4 legged friends and have some fun.

Tony Pepperoni Pizzeria: 27822 Aliso Creek Rd. Ste C 100, Aliso Viejo

Looking for a place to take the kids that has something for everyone? Tony Pepperoni is the place. Family-owned and run, this location has great seating with dining tables, raised seating, and a large bar with great beer on tap including microbrews and wine. If you feel like catching a game, the TVs are everywhere, all 20 of them and great quality. You can sit outside at the private outdoor patio, play pool on either of the two pool tables and there are a few arcade games for the kids. Good pizza with friendly fast service keeps everyone pleased. The sauce has good flavor and balances with other ingredients. The kids like the “Cheesy Bread” which is their pie crust with garlic, parmesan, and of course cheese. Basically, a cheese pizza without the sauce. Marinara dipping sauce on the side makes this appetizer tear apart yumminess. Why we love it? Super community-oriented, family-friendly, the owner supports all the local youth sports teams and donates time and pizza to the cause!

Tony’s Little Italy Pizza: 1808 N. Placentia Unit B, Placentia

The winner for best Chicago-style pizza goes to Tony’s Little Italy in Placentia. Since 1978, Tony’s has been winning awards for their pizza. Added bonus, if you are a Chicago Sports fan you will love the decorations in the restaurant highlighting Chicago’s fav sports teams and memorabilia. Tip #1 order ahead! The deep-dish style pizza takes 45-60 minutes to cook and feels like it weighs about 5lbs, but I promise you, it’s worth the wait. You’ll need a spatula to take out a slice! Ask for thick crust stuffed pizza, figure 1-2 pieces per person. Tasty sauce, stringy cheese, and amazing crust like you’ve never had are just some of what you can expect.  Tony and his family all work there. Seating is limited but keeps the place cozy. They also deliver within a 5-mile radius. Check out Tony’s, it is worth the drive to Placentia. Why we love it? If you have to ask why then you didn’t read where I am from! Nothing is better than Chicago Pizza. Nothing.

Cortina’s Italian Market: 2175 W Orange Ave, Anaheim

This restaurant has been here since the 1960s. There’s a deli/market on the other side dedicated to everything Italian… they serve all kinds of meats, cheeses, pasta salads, wine, and desserts. The other side is their dining/ restaurant area where they serve some of the best homemade Italian dishes and PIZZA to die for. The interior is really nice with a high-end sports bar and grill theme. East coasters swear this is the best NYC pizza in North OC.  The crust has the right consistency of crunchiness and fullness. The cheese is always melted to perfection where the cheese Is stringy but doesn’t slide off the slice. The service is good; the workers there are always nice! From one foodie to another, this place is a must! You will most likely become a regular like myself! Bonus~ Fresh Cannoli’s from the attached bakery make the perfect take-home dessert. Why we love it? Authenticity.  Heck, it’s Gwen Stefani’s “go to” place so that’s enough for us! https://cortinasitalianfood.com/anaheim
